Telephone Scam - Debit Cards
March 3, 2014
Customers and non-customers have been receiving phone calls in regards to their Elmira Savings Bank debit card. The calls are coming from an automated service stating the customers debit card is locked, or needs to be activated. The service then asks you to respond by pressing 1 on your telephone key pad.
If you press one they go on to ask you to provide your debit card number, and possibly other personal information such as your checking account number, social security number, etc.
Elmira Savings Bank does not participate in calls like this. This is a SCAM. If you receive one of these calls, please hang up immediately. Do not follow the instructions they provide. If by chance you, or someone you know, has already responded and provided personal information during a call like this, please contact our Call Center at (607) 734-3374 or stop by your local branch office today.
